The Nanjingnan-Taicang High Speed Railway serves as a backbone route within the Yangtze River Delta intercity rail transit network. Starting from Nanjingnan Railway Station, the railway passes through various cities in Jiangsu Province, including Nanjing, Zhenjiang, Changzhou, Wuxi, and Suzhou, before merging with the Shanghai-Nantong Railway at Taicang Railway Station and connecting to the Shanghai railway hub. The total length of the railway is 279 kilometers, with a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour. The railway includes eight stations: Nanjingnan, Jurong, Jintan, Wujin, Jiangyin, Zhangjiagang, Changshu, and Taicang. Among these, Nanjingnan, Zhangjiagang, Changshu, and Taicang are existing stations, while Jurong, Jintan, Wujin, and Jiangyin are newly constructed.
In preparation for its commencement, CR meticulously organized integrated testing and commissioning, acceptance checks, and safety assessments of various professional equipment. Adjustments and optimizations were made to various aspects including track conditions, catenary performance, train control, and communication and signal systems. Currently, the railway meets the safety and stability requirements for high speed railway operation, possessing the necessary conditions for commencement.
The Nanjingnan-Taicang High Speed Railway will operate with a maximum speed of 350 kilometers per hour. During the initial phase of operation, the railway authorities have scheduled ten pairs of high speed trains daily. This includes five pairs between Nanjingnan Railway Station and Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station, one pair between Nanjingnan Railway Station and Shanghai Railway Station, three pairs between Nanjingnan Railway Station and Taicang Railway Station, and one pair between Wuhu Railway Station and Shanghai Railway Station. The travel time between the Nanjingnan and Zhangjiagang stations, Changshu and Taicang stations has been significantly reduced from the previous durations of 2 hours and 35 minutes, 2 hours and 46 minutes, and 3 hours and 7 minutes, to 1 hour and 6 minutes, respectively. After the fourth-quarter schedule adjustment, train operation plans will be further optimized and refined based on passenger demand.
The Nanjingnan-Taicang High Speed Railway marks the fourth railway link between Shanghai and Nanjing and the second inter-city railway between Shanghai and Nanjing, following the Beijing-Shanghai Railway, Shanghai-Nanjing Intercity Railway, and Beijing-Shanghai High Speed Railway. The inauguration of this high speed railway further densifies the intercity railway transit network in the Yangtze River Delta region, significantly enhancing convenience for local residents and contributing significantly to the construction of the Yangtze River Economic Belt and the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region.
