The Guangzhou-Shanwei High Speed Railway starts from the Xintang Railway Station in Zengcheng District, Guangzhou City. It passes through Zengcheng District in Guangzhou City, Boluo County, Zhongkai High-tech Industrial Development Zone, Huiyang District, Huicheng District, Huidong County, and the Shenzhen-Shanwei Special Cooperation Zone in Huizhou City, and Haifeng County in Shanwei City before connecting to Shanwei Railway Station in Shanwei’s city center. The mainline spans 200 kilometers in total length with a designed speed of up to 350 kilometers per hour. The railway includes eight stations: Xintang Railway Station, Zengcheng Railway Station, Luofushan Railway Station, Boluo Railway Station, Huizhounan Railway Station, Huidong Railway Station, Shenshan Railway Station, and Shanwei Railway Station. Among these, the Xintang Railway Station and Shanwei Railway Station are existing stations, while the other six stations are newly constructed. The Guangzhou-Shanwei High Speed Railway connects to Guangzhoudong Railway Station via lines of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Railway at Xintang Railway Station. It also connects to the Ganzhou-Shenzhen High Speed Railway by the Bozhou-Huizhoubei Railway Station connection line and the Huizhounan Railway Station-Zhongkai Railway Station connection line.
The Guangzhou-Shanwei High Speed Railway traverses high-salinity and high-humidity coastal areas with complex geological conditions, presenting considerable construction challenges. Since the commencement of full-line construction in 2019, CR has organized all participating units to overcome various difficulties, innovated construction techniques and methods, and constructed 121 bridges, including the Railway Bridge over the Zeng River in Zengcheng. It has also completed 53 tunnels, including the Yingpaishan Tunnel, ensuring the project’s completion on schedule.
Before the commencement of operation, CR meticulously organized and conducted comprehensive optimization adjustments for all professional equipment of the Guangzhou-Shanwei High Speed Railway. This includes integrated testing and commissioning, acceptance, safety assessments, and comprehensive optimization adjustments for track conditions, catenary performance, train control, and communication signal systems. Currently, the railway meets the requirements for safe and stable high speed railway operation and is ready for operation.
In the initial period of operation, CR will operate a maximum of 29 pairs of trains daily, including 2 pairs from Guangzhoudong Railway Station to Heyuandong Railway Station, 3 pairs to Huizhoubei Railway Station, 7 pairs to Shanwei Railway Station, 3 pairs to Jieyang Railway Station, 2 pairs to Chaoshan Railway Station, 9.5 pairs to Shantou Railway Station, and 2.5 pairs to Meizhouxi Railway Station. After the schedule adjustment in the fourth quarter, the daily number of trains will reach a maximum of 43 pairs, including 6 pairs from Guangzhoudong Railway Station to Heyuandong Railway Station, 5 pairs to Huizhoubei Railway Station, 6 pairs to Shanwei Railway Station, 3 pairs to Jieyang Railway Station, 17 pairs to Chaoshan Railway Station (Shantou Railway Station, Meizhouxi Railway Station), with a travel time of as short as 73 minutes between the Guangzhoudong Railway Station and Shanwei Railway Station. Additionally, there will be 4 pairs running from Shenzhenbei Railway Station to Shanwei Railway Station and 2 pairs to Chaoshan Railway Station (Meizhouxi Railway Station), with a travel time of as short as 70 minutes between the Shenzhenbei Railway Station and Shanwei Railway Station.
The Guangzhou-Shanwei High Speed Railway, along with the planned Ningbo-Wenzhou-Fuzhou High Speed Railway, the soon-to-open Fuzhou-Xiamen High Speed Railway, the Zhangzhou-Shantou High Speed Railway in its preliminary work, and the Shantou-Shanwei High Speed Railway to be opened later this year, will constitute a new, higher-standard High Speed Railway corridor from Ningbo to Guangzhou. It is a vital part of the “Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal” high speed railway network along China’s coastal routes, holding significant regional network importance. The commencement of operation provides a fast passenger transportation corridor to the eastern revolutionary district of Guangdong, greatly facilitating the travel of local residents. This development is of paramount significance in helping the district integrate into the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and promoting the coordinated development of the regional economy and society.
