On September 19, workers were laying track for the Lijiang to Shangri-La section of the Yunnan-Tibet Railway. At the construction site of Shangrila Railway Station in Diqing Tibetan autonomous prefecture, Yunnan province, the final pair of 500-meter-long steel rails were accurately laid on the track bed, marking the completion of track laying for the Lijiang to Shangri-La section of the Yunnan-Tibet Railway. This achievement establishes a solid foundation for the scheduled opening and operation later this year. Once the Lijiang to Shangri-La section is operational, Diqing Tibetan autonomous prefecture will end its history of being inaccessible by rail.
The Lijiang to Shangri-La section of the Yunnan-Tibet Railway, located in the northwest of Yunnan province, connects Lijiang City with Diqing Tibetan autonomous prefecture. It spans a total length of 139.7 kilometers, with a target passenger train speed of 140 kilometers per hour. According to the plan, this section of the Yunnan-Tibet Railway will be fully operational later this year, connecting with the already operational Kunming-Chuxiong-Dali Railway. Travel time from Kunming to Shangri-La is expected to be approximately 5 hours.
